The earthquake in central Italy
An anomalous and strong seismic frequency has kept central Italy in check during a very long period that saw destruction and death from August to November 2016. Many areas were affected starting from Amatrice, Pescara del Tronto, Arquata, Accumuli, up to Visso , Castelluccio and Norcia. About 300 victims, a very high percentage based on people who slept in those places especially on the night of August 24th. Some speak of at least 10 times larger in percentage terms than the earthquake of the Aquila of 2009. A seismic swarm so strong that it has even morphologically modified a large part of the territory involved creating for example a lowering of altitude in the area of Castelluccio of about 80 cm. The images depict the first few hours in the most affected places, in the "red areas" that at first sight, given the total emergency, were almost uncontrolled and then became inaccessible in the hours to follow. Destruction, despair, but also the deafening silence of those places where little is left standing. The silence of those with dignity in front of the rubble plays the solitaire waiting for help, who restores the blankets and faces another night of fear and trembling near their loved ones.
